ABF Series: 1 Samuel – Lesson 9

In our Adult Bible Fellowships we have observed in our Study of 1 Samuel that God’s people must regularly admit sin and cry out to God…His mercy and grace are abundant, steadfast and above all tied to his great name.

  1. God’s people struggle with great wickedness, which means God’s great mercy helps us understand His great name.
  2. Fear/reverence helps us develop faithfulness from the heart…Reverence for God and assurance before God, come from a focus on His character.
  3. God gives us grace upon grace, warning upon warning, and reason upon reason to trust him.
  4. God’s faithfulness through Samuel instruction and intercession points us to Christ’s faithfulness.

1 Samuel 13-14 – Saul & Jonathan

In preparation for our lesson on Sunday please read the section listed above and observe what stands out to you in the narrative. Note the contrast between Saul and Jonathan.

Also, please think about the following discussion questions.

  1. In your own life, how do you see the pressure of life often become the excuse to set aside the commands of God?
  2. How do these Chapters help instruct you to grow to be a man or woman after God’s own heart?
  3. As you look at Chapter 13, what kind of picture is painted of Israel?
  4. What are the contrasts you see between Saul and Jonathan, how can that impact your walk with the Lord?
