Because He is Faithful: Emily’s Story!

We hope so far you have been encouraged to read the testimonies of some of our newest interns. We are so blessed by each of our interns, and it has been exciting to get to know them and see God working in their lives already!

Today, we would like to introduce you to another one of our new interns, Emily. Emily came to us from Princeton, Indiana, and we are excited to work alongside her. Praise the Lord with us, as you read her testimony below!

“I was raised in a Christian home where God’s word was instilled daily into my life. When I was young, I was watching Billy Graham with my mom and came to the realization that if I were to die I would spend eternity separated from God. At that moment, my mom led me to Christ and I became a born again believer in the Lord.

As I grew older, I had a spotty relationship with God. I would spend three days working faithfully for Him and then spend a couple weeks living for myself. At that time, I knew that I should go to church, read my bible, and pray every day but only did it with the motives of ‘checking it off’ for the day. This continued into my middle school years.

At the beginning of high school and during my parent’s divorce, I found my only hope was in the Lord, and my youth pastor’s wife helped me to focus on Christ in my hardships. I had been living in selfishness and desiring comfort from the world, yet God was faithful and gracious to me and brought me back to Him with unconditional love. This is when I realized that I wanted to help young women and girls to cling to the Lord in their struggles because He is faithful.

God is still working in my life every day, and I am so thankful for His amazing grace! I can’t wait to see what He has planned here at Vision of Hope.

I found out about Vision of Hope because my youth pastor’s wife is certified through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), and has been to a couple Biblical Counseling Training Conferences at Faith Church, as well as my mom who has been to two conferences at Faith where they heard about the Vision of Hope internship and encouraged me to look into it.

I know that God has a plan for my future – and my goal is to follow His plan whatever it may be – so my future plans are liable to change. In the future, though, I plan to become ACBC certified and be able to use that certification and information to counsel in whatever situation God has for me. I am a 2016 high school graduate, so after the internship I want to go to college. At this point, I plan to go for Social Work and hope to use my experience at Vision of Hope to better encourage hurting people with God’s Word.

Since I live in a sin cursed world, I am surrounded by hurting people, but don’t always know how to encourage them in The Word of God according to their specific struggles. I feel that God has called me to be an encouragement to girls and women, so while I am here I hope to learn more about biblical counseling and what it looks like from a counselor’s point of view. I believe that this experience will help me to do God’s will in the future.”

How faithful is our God, to help our desires to line up with His, giving us the desire to share the gospel! Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
