These past few weeks have been such a blessing to us, as we have heard from our new interns about God’s work in their lives. As we wrap up our intern introductions, we hope you have been encouraged and joined us in glorifying God for His relentless love for us.
Today we have the privilege of wrapping up this series by introducing you to Anna! Anna came to us in November 2015 from Mexico City, Mexico, originally to help as a volunteer. She chose to stay with us for the 2016 year as an intern, and we are thrilled to have her! Please be encouraged as you read her story!
“I grew up in a Christian home, my dad and my mom did a great job of teaching us about God since we were little. Over the years I just realized that I didn’t have the fruits that the Bible talked about. I prayed ‘the sinner’s prayer’ many, many times, but nothing happened. It became a battle, knowing ‘everything’ about Jesus, and the cross and what He had done for me but at the same time knowing that none of it was real in my life. For almost a year I prayed every night asking God to save me, and during that time I understood that even repentance and faith and ultimately salvation come only from Him, and that I could do nothing to obtain any of them. Five years ago, I talked with a Pastor and told him about my situation. I still remember how he told me to picture Christ sitting right in front of me, and he asked me: What do you think He would do if you came to Him? For the first time it became clear to me that He wouldn’t reject me…that He would accept me with arms wide open just as I was. That day the Lord saved me and changed my life. His grace and love have abounded in my life since then…oh yes, I have failed, I have failed that wonderful and loving God, but His grace has been greater and sufficient for me. My heart is filled with joy to know that my God sees Christ when He sees me. I strive to glorify Him in all I do and to love Him more every day!
My parents came to the Biblical Counseling Training Conference at Faith Church last year, and they heard about VOH. They told me about it, and in November of 2015 I came to VOH as a volunteer originally planning to stay here for a month (my winter break from med school). During that time the Lord just spoke to my heart and showed me that the souls are way more important than our physical bodies, and that I could even become the best doctor and help people who suffer physically…but just doing that has no profit. So, I applied for the internship and God gave me this wonderful opportunity to learn and be surrounded with people who love Him! I want to learn more about God, to discover deeper things about Him and the joy that comes through following His steps over my heart and its desires. I’m also really excited about learning more about Biblical Counseling and how God’s Word really has answers for every situation in life!
In the future, I want to get certified as a Biblical Counselor and also finish med school to serve God as a doctor and counselor to not only help people who suffer physically, but to also be able to point them to The Great Physician. I’m open to whatever God has in store for me and to wherever He wants me to go.”
Thank you so much for sharing, Anna! We are so glad you chose to spend the year with us.
