Freeing Truth: Part 2

Truth is freeing, and it sanctifies us and keeps us from sin. In John 17:17-19, Jesus said, “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate Myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.”

How awesome to know that the Truth not only frees us, but it sets us apart as holy in the Lord! That was Christ’s prayer for us, and that should be what we strive for in our lives each day.

One of our graduates shared with me that she has been greatly impacted by Truth. I asked her to share in our blog, and she was gracious enough to do so. Please listen in, as this graduate shares her heart on the matter of Truth:

“In the deepest places of the human soul, we long to be free from having to clothe our broken, sinful selves. We go through this life trying to clothe our souls with one lie after another, desperate to cover the fact that we are broken image-bearers of a holy and perfect God. Until we realize that only Truth clothes, only His blood covers, only the Gospel of Jesus liberates us from the slavery of trying to cover ourselves, will we find true freedom and joy. As the old hymn says, “Naked, I come to Thee for dress.” It delights the heart of God when I cry out for Him to clothe my naked soul with the Truth of the Gospel. It’s here that I find true, abundant Life in Him being all that I could never be on my own.

“Truth has given me a precious living relationship with a deeply intimate God who desires the pure light of His presence to be in every part of my being. Only as I put off the darkness, and cling to light, can I find the freedom that comes with abiding in Truth. Truth frees me to unfold my most wounded places, my most fear-filled places, my most dirty places before the Holy One – I am free to be exposed, to be fully known, because the Gospel of Jesus covers me. What relief, what joy to be known, and to not have to hide! What grace! It is Jesus Himself who is Truth – He wants to be known in the deepest part of me, and I find confidence and courage in Him only… He never changes. Truth exposes me, washes me, cleanses me, illumines me, and clothes me with the grace of God that I find only in being washed by the blood of Jesus. Before the Father, Jesus is my advocate, His blood covers me, and I am forgiven – I am His, His image is restored, and the Father is satisfied. Only Jesus can clothe me in Truth. Truth frees me from fear, and sets my heart at rest in the presence of a Holy God. There is no deeper peace than my soul being clothed in the unchanging Truth and life of Jesus Christ.”

How awesome to hear of God’s cleansing, sanctifying Truth! Stay tuned for more testimonies of God’s Truth in the weeks to come!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
