Excited to Counsel: Meet Bryanna!

You do not need to have biblical counseling training in your background to serve as a VOH intern. However, often we do have interns who studied biblical counseling at school and then come to VOH out of a desire for more hands-on training.  Such is the case for Bryanna! As we continue in our blog series introducing our current interns, meet Bryanna.

My name is Bryanna Goza. I’m from Emporia, Kansas, but I just graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri in May 2017. I really like to read and write, and I also sing and play the violin and piano.

I grew up going to church and was saved at a young age. I was playing in my room one day when I realized I was a sinner and that meant I was separated from God, so I went and got my grandma so I could be saved. My grandparents are the godliest influence I had on my life growing up, and I’m so grateful that they made sure I was in church and learning about God. I really struggled to apply the Bible as a teenager but have grown a lot in recent years.

How did you hear about the VOH internship? Why were you interested in coming here to serve for a year?

I heard about the VOH internship because one of my counseling classes at BBC had me reading blogs on issues that affect teenagers. I was reading some blogs on the Biblical Counseling Coalition website and one of the blogs mentioned VOH. I thought that it sounded interesting from the blog, so I clicked onto the website. As I was reading the website and learning about VOH, I just kept getting more and more excited about what God was doing through this ministry and knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I would really like to solidify and apply the biblical counseling training I received in college, and to grow both as a counselor and spiritually in my own life.

What are you excited to learn and grow in at VOH?

I really just want to learn all that I can. I have a heart for counseling teens and women who are struggling, so I would like to be exposed to a wide variety of counseling situations and learn how to counsel them. I would like to grow in not letting my fear of man impede what I should be saying to counselees in order to glorify God.

If we had a fun themed day at VOH, what would you want the theme to be and why?

If we had a fun themed day here, I would like for it to be something like a pioneer day where everyone dresses old-fashioned and we do old-fashioned things. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and the pioneer to Victorian era is my favorite timeframe to study.

Bryanna has already jumped into observing counseling and will have many opportunities this year to grow in her counseling skills and in putting off fear of man. If you would like help in growing in discipling or counseling others, click here to investigate the internship.
