Proper Motivation

There are so many Biblical truths and scriptures that come to mind when I think of running a race. The Bible holds several analogies about pressing toward a goal, finishing a race, etc. and it also speaks greatly about perseverance and diligence in our walk with the Lord.

As our Race for Hope fundraising event draws nearer, I am hearing many people talk about how they have been training to participate. Our 10k run is especially something to train for, as it includes some pretty serious inclines. It indeed takes a lot of motivation and endurance to finish strong.

In the course of life that the Lord lays out for us, we also need to have proper motivation and focus to finish strong. Paul speaks to this affect in Acts 20:24 “But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.”

Paul lays out for us what our focus should be in this life – testifying to the world the gospel of Christ and declaring His great grace! When we remind ourselves of these goals each and every day, we will find that our lives begin to transform. When trials and difficulties come, we will have much focus and endurance because we know what God’s will is for us in those times – to glorify Him by showing others Who He is. Just as it takes proper motivation to finish a challenging 10k race, so also God has provided for us a high goal in order to keep our focus on Him as we run through challenges in this life.

Please continue praying as we look forward to this annual fundraiser on June 10th, and don’t forget to donate or sign up to participate as a runner or walker on our website here!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
