Freeing Truth: Part 13

Such freedom we have in the Truth of the Word! We hope you have been encouraged thus far by our series on Truth. Jesus taught that the Truth sets us free, so let’s focus on the Truths of the Word and experience the freedom His died to give  us!

After Jesus said the famous words, “You will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free,” those around Him asked, “free from what?” They did not think themselves as slaves, so this concept confused them. Yet, changing the concept of slavery forever, Jesus amazingly answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:34-36)

The Word says that anyone who commits sin is a slave. Without Christ, we are all deep into slavery! But the good news – the GREAT news – is that Jesus Christ died to break the chains of sin, so that we could live freely. And whom He sets free, is free indeed.

Reflecting on this wonderful Gospel Truth, one of our residents shared with me a bit of how Truth brought her to this amazing freedom in Christ:

“Truth has set me free. I was believing lies about God and what it meant to be a Christian. When I learned the Truth, I realized that I wasn’t a Christian and decided to take the step to become a true believer. I learned God’s Truth through His Word, and the Truth about who God is – the Truths that He is in control, that He is good and loving, that He is all-powerful and wise. Knowing these Truths has set me free from being a slave to sin, and now sin has no power over me!”

Whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Let’s praise God together today for His wonderful gospel Truths!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
