Freeing Truth: Part 11

Many of us occasionally struggle with fear and worry, but we must be on guard! Fear can so quickly consume and enslave us, taking over our minds and lives until we are ruled by it. But there is hope! There is freedom from fear, found in the Truth of the Word.

2 Timothy 1:7 states that “God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.” When we are afraid, we can be sure that God does not intend for us to be ruled by that fear, and He will provide a way to freedom from it!

The source of freedom is the Word and the Truth it contains. How peaceful is the soul who stays fixed on the Lord and His Word (Psalm 1, Isaiah 26:3). This is something many of our residents have learned during their time with us, and one resident in particular wanted to share how she has found freedom from fear in her own life:

“One of the reasons I came to VOH is because I was consumed with fear. Afraid of everything…and I hated that. I would do everything I could to numb myself to the terror I felt, but those were only temporary escapes. I was relying on a god – an idol – who did not deliver on its promises.

But now I put my faith in the One true God! When I am afraid, I can always go to Him in prayer and go to the promises He’s made to me in His Word. He is the only God who is truly faithful and always delivers.”

How blessed we are that the Almighty God has made a way for us to be freed from fear!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
