Freeing Truth: Part 6

The Bible teaches that we are to be sanctified – set apart as holy for the Lord. But how is that accomplished? The Lord accomplishes this in our lives, and He uses His Word to do so!

Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” God gave us His letter to us – His Word – so that we can be set apart has holy for Him. He uses His Word in our lives to show us our sin and make us more like Him.

In John 17:17, Jesus prays, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” The Lord chooses to use His Word of Truth as a means of setting us apart for Him. How important it is, then, to spend time daily in the Word of God to learn and apply its Truth?

Check out what one of our residents has to say about the impact of the Word of Truth in her life:

There is no other written Word that exists that can convict the heart the way God’s Word does. We can choose to believe it or deny it, but the truth remains steadfast, unchangeable, and is accessible to anyone who seeks it out.

In my time at VOH, I have spent more time in God’s Word in 3 months than I have in the past 3 years. It keeps me in a repentant state of mind, ever aware of my sins that entangle me, continually pushing me into prayers of thankfulness, asking forgiveness, running far from my sin. It’s always there when I need it, to offer encouragement, teaching, reproof.

It never fails.”

What a great reminder that the Word of God is the most impactful, most important book we could ever read, and is God’s tool of conviction and sactification! May we never neglect it or take it for granted, and may we be diligent students of the Word!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
