Winning the Prize

When a big race is coming, serious runners train hard. They spend hours building up their strength and endurance, timing themselves, and pushing themselves to become better and better so that they can make it to the finish in record time! This concept always reminds me of 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 which says, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.”

Surely, there are great benefits in training for a race. The strength and endurance it takes to run a race with excellence brings fantastic health and energy benefits, not to mention the prize that is won if you run the race well. Nevertheless, according to these verses, the benefits of physical training pales in comparison to the eternal benefits of exercising self-control and endurance in our walk with the Lord. Just as a runner dedicates much time and energy into their training sessions, so much more should we devote our lives to building patience, endurance, and self-control in our everyday lives. In this way, we will be storing up for ourselves true treasures in heaven that will never parish!

The Race for Hope is coming, and we are keeping in diligent prayer for this important event. For those of you who don’t know, the Race for Hope is a 5k or 10 run or a 5k walk fundraiser to support Faith Bible Seminary and Vision of Hope! Even though this event is a fundraiser, the mail goal of the Race is really to display to our community that the Gospel is true and powerful, and that God is still in the business of transforming lives!

There are a few ways YOU can be involved in this awesome event:

First, you can pray for our ministry and the Race for Hope. Pray that through this event, we will have many opportunities to proclaim the Gospel!

Another way to be involved is to register as a participant in any of these three events. Please visit our race website to register. Each registration receives a sharp event t-shirt and a packet of goodies.

The next way you can help us with this community event is to volunteer. The commitment is only for one morning from 7 am to 10:30 or 11 am. There are a variety of ways to volunteer. Please visit our volunteer site if you’re interested in partnering with us in this way!

Finally, since this is one of our few fundraisers, you could help by sponsoring a runner on one of the teams on our  donation page. We ask each team captain to raise $1,000.00 in support and it would greatly bless them if you prayerfully considered contributing to their efforts.

We are so excited about the message of the Race for Hope, and we hope that you will considering partnering with us in this great event!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
