Senior Living Community: A Blessing

In our culture today, the elderly are often forgotten. Some are even discarded. Still others are viewed as prime candidates for “euthanasia,” an innocuous word used to describe assisted suicides in order to “end pain or suffering.” Sometimes abandoned by their families, many live lonely, saddened lives. But the Bible values life and we must consider what a blessing older adults are to us.

The Bible teaches that the elderly are a fountain of wisdom. Proverbs 16:31 states, “Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.” Just a few chapters later, Proverbs also tells us, “The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.” (Prov. 20:29)

The Bible screams the message that older individuals are huge blessings on this earth. They have lived, “been there, done that,” and can bring great wisdom into the lives of younger men and women.

An exciting opportunity that has recently developed at Faith Ministries is the construction of our Senior Living Community. This community is a place for seniors to live in their own homes and enjoy fellowship together. I have heard many individuals speak of the convenience of location and the encouragement that comes from living closely together with other individuals who share in their same stage of life. But there is another reason we at Vision of Hope are so excited about this community.

The Senior Living Community is located just across the pond from Vision of Hope. Why is this exciting? Because we are able to serve these precious folks in assisting with lawn care, as well as connect with them on a personal level and gain the great wisdom they have to offer. Since the community was completed and opened, we have had several older ladies go through our volunteer training to get more involved with our residents at Vision of Hope. We believe it is such a blessing and so important for our girls to connect with older ladies, serve them, and learn from their years of experience.

The Senior Living Community is a wonderful ministry, and the precious individuals living there have been such a blessing to us as they have ministered to our residents and staff team. They are beautiful representatives of our Savior, and we are thrilled that they are a part of our lives.

Stay tuned to our blog and read an interview session with one of our volunteers who lives in this wonderful community! You can learn more about the Senior Living Community here!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
