We are always excited to take part in community events in order to make connections with other great organizations in our county. We had one of these opportunities just last Thursday, and we would like to share with you a little about what went on.
Our Social Worker, Heather Starkweather, volunteered to serve with the Drug Free Coalition of Tippecanoe County at the Purdue Health Expo on Thursday, September 9th. The coalition works with law enforcement and local agencies to promote prevention and treatment for drug and alcohol abuse in Tippecanoe. During the Purdue Health Expo we were able to instruct students on how to safely dispose of medication through the Purdue University Pharmacy. We also encouraged residents to sign up for a drawing for a free medication lock box. A big part of the Expo was talking to students about what the Drug Free Coalition does and how they use money from drug related court fees to provide grants to agencies for prevention and treatment. We also provided educational materials to the students who stopped by our booth as well as free pens, bracelets, bookmarks, tote bags, and candy! Heather was very encouraged about a conversation she had with a Purdue RA who specifically asked how he as an RA could help prevent drug and alcohol use on campus. This was a great opportunity for Vision of Hope to serve our community and Purdue University Students.
We hope you will join us in prayer for our county and the potential fruit of this event we were able to take part in!
