Resource Friday: The Knowledge of the Holy

And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)

Truly knowing and understanding who God is is so vital to our lives. Our view of God will impact how we handle every circumstance we face, whether good or bad. If we believe God is not involved in our lives or that He is not loving, life can be pretty bleak and hopeless. Yet, if we see God as a loving Father who only allows things to happen for His glory and our good, we can enter into each day with peace and confidence.

Paul put it this way in Philippians 3:7-8: “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Here, Paul is saying that everything else in his life – and in our lives as well – is basically worthless when compared to the incomprehensible pleasure of truly knowing God.

There are some great resources out there to help those who seek to have a better understanding of who God is. One of those fantastic resources is what we will be highlighting today: The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer.

This little book sets a strong foundation for our thinking in our every day lives. Taking his readers through the most important and impactful characteristics of God, Tozer does a masterful job of helping his readers grow in their knowledge of our Lord. Addressing topics such as God’s holiness, goodness, wisdom, and many more, readers are left encouraged and challenged throughout each chapter.

As Tozer states, “Without doubt, the mightiest thought the mind can entertain is the thought of God…” When our minds are fixed on the Lord, with a right view of Him, our lives will be forever changed. This book is a powerfully encouraging resource for anyone who desires to know our God more deeply. If you would like to your own copy of this resource, click here!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
