Resource Friday: War of Words

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” – Proverbs 18:21

Our words are powerful. We can tear others down or build others up with just a single sentence. Many of us struggle to communicate with those around us, even with those we love the most. We can find ourselves in instances of intense frustration, wondering if we will ever get the hang of this communication thing. Paul Tripp seeks to help with his book, War of Words.

Tripp candidly begins his book by explaining that he did not write this book our of his own experience of victory, but out of desperation for biblical help in his own life. It is in light of this fact that Tripp’s readers join him in diving deep into the Word of God for answers to this all-too-common problem. Tripp tactfully and powerfully unpacks the issues of the heart associated with our most common communication problems. Noting the difference between God’s communication and the way Satan’s, Tripp encourages his readers to address the deep heart issues each of us face, and to become more like their Savior in their speech. Tripp ends his book by giving great hope and wisdom concerning how we are to fight hard and win this tough war we find ourselves in.

As Tripp reminds us, talk is definitely not cheap; our words come with a price. Our words should not be taken lightly, and we are to communicate just as our Savior has demonstrated to us – in love and with much grace, wanting the absolute best for others. This is a powerful resource for any believer, as we all face struggles in our communication. To purchase the practical resource, click here!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
