Resource Friday: Lord, Change My Attitude

Our attitudes tend to change in each situation we find ourselves. We complain when it rains, are critical when we see a screaming child at the grocery store, and are thankful when things in our lives just seem to be going well. Our attitude and thought patterns can seem so dominating that we can feel as if we are stuck in a rut and can’t get out.

The Bible tells us to “Have this mind [attitude] among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Phil. 2:5-8) Jesus is our ultimate example of what kind of attitude we are to have today. But what does that look like practically? James MacDonald does a masterful job of teaching his readers how to put off ungodly attitudes and put on those of Jesus in his book, Lord Change My Attitude…Before it’s Too Late.

MacDonald begins his book by going deep into the motivations of one who truly wants to change. Helping his readers to evaluate whether or not they are ready to commit to true change, MacDonald makes it clear that true attitude change takes time, effort, and a committed heart.

In this book, MacDonald takes his readers through the Bible, revealing the fact that so many common bad attitudes with with we struggle today were manifested years ago in the scriptures as well. Attitudes such as complaining, coveting, criticizing, and rebellion ran as rampant in the Bible times as it does today, and the Bible doesn’t leave us without hope! Using Scripture, MacDonald teaches how to put off those old, ungodly attitudes and to put on ones that glorify and honor God.

Change is possible, and we do not need to get stuck in the slump of an ungodly attitude. MacDonald give real challenges and hope in this great resource, which have helped many of our ladies here at VOH! If you would like to purchase this book, click here!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
