Weariness

Sometimes we just get tired. Worn out and wiped out. Physically exhausted. It is important to rest our bodies for the purpose of renewing physical strength, but what about weariness of the soul? We can easily load ourselves up with things we see as good, but sometimes too much of a good things can lead to a burn-out.  So how do we handle growing weary not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well?

Be Wise.

Be wise and don’t overcommit. If you load up on too many things, you will be much less likely to complete anything. Strive to be a person who can make commitments and not only keep them, but fulfill them with excellence.

Take Heart.

When you do feel overwhelmed, take heart and remember that you have a big God on your side who is ultimately in control! Psalm 61:2 says, “From the end of the earth will I cry to you, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” and Psalm 138:3 says, “On the day I called, you answered me; my strength of soul you increased”. Our Lord is attentive to the cry of His children, those who have placed their trust and faith in Jesus alone for their salvation, and He is stronger and more powerful than any situation we could face. Even if we have too much on our plates, He is still greater. Isaiah 40
teaches us that our God doesn’t grow weary, His understanding is unsearchable, and He gives power and strength to those who are weary and have no might. Even when we are burned out, we can take heart in knowing that our God is greater still and promises to increase our strength when we have need.

God cares about our weary souls and bodies, and provides great refuge for us when we are struggling to press on. Let us not become weary in well doing (Galatians 6:9), but rather rely on the Lord’s great strength, which is always overflowing in abundance.

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
