What’s In A Name?

What’s in a Name?

A very famous question posed by William Shakespeare in the play Romeo and Juliet has been used by many people in a sarcastic way when mistakenly referencing someone else.  Could the same question be posed by someone when they think of Faith Christian School – so, what’s in a name??  Three distinct  words make up the title of our school, and they are both related and independent of each other.

Faith

FCS was started in 1997 with 48 students and 6 full-time teachers and staff members.  There was a lot of FAITH involved in families sending their children to a school that was starting up and in teachers that moved to Lafayette to teach and work at a school that did not even exist – FAITH.  There was also a lot of FAITH present in the lives and prayers of many people in our church family who sacrificed their gifts, talents, and abilities to help build a new building and help the school get off the ground .

Christian

One thing that sets FCS apart from other schools is the fact that we are inherently Christian in everything we do.  We want our students to be taught from a biblical worldview not only in our classes, but also out on the soccer field and volleyball court.  We want our students in choir, band, art, and drama classes to use their talents to magnify Christ in everything they do.  When students walk across the stage at graduation, we obviously want them to be prepared for the next stage of their life, but we also want them to have a deeper love and appreciation for their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

School

A challenge that small schools face is to do EVERYTHING in an excellent manner because of the amount of responsibilities that are required of teachers and staff.  One thing that we have to get “right” is our academics.  We want our students to be excited to learn.  We hope that we are producing students who are good thinkers, provocative writers, and WORLD CHANGERS.

Our academic program provides our students with the opportunity to excel at any college they may seek to attend.  Our elementary program desires that our students love reading and for them to become proficient in the areas of comprehension, thinking and reasoning.  As students grow, it becomes important for them to be proficient in computers and grammar along with an enjoyment of cultural studies and being introduced to new concepts in math and science.

So what’s in a name? In this case, I believe our name captures our mission as we seek to partner with parents to raise young people to live effectively in God’s world.  Praise God for the opportunity and freedom that He has given us to promote Christian education in our community and to our families.
