The following lesson was taught in our children’s Sunday School classes on Sunday, February 4. We would encourage you to use the ideas below to review Sunday’s lesson with your family.
King David Receives God’s Promise
Read: 2 Samuel 1:1-2:4a; 7
Ask your child:
- How did God keep His promise to David to make him king? After Saul’s death, David became king over Judah, and later, all Israel.
- What promise did God make to David? Among other incredible things, God promised to establish the throne of one David’s descendants (Jesus) forever.
Emphasize this principle: God keeps incredible promises. Therefore, we should trust and honor him.
Practice:
- Trust God to keep His promises.
- Thank God for His grace toward sinners.
Sing: “God Is So Good”
Prepare for next week: 1 Kings 2:1-4, 3:1-15, 8:1-9:9, 11
Memorize for Feb 4-Feb 18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)*
* Preschool verse in bold
