In our Adult Bible Fellowships we learned in our bible study over the Gospel of Mark that Mark wrote to Christians in Rome to encourage and strengthen their faith. And He focuses the narrative on two main questions.

  1. Who is Jesus? (1:1-8:30)
  2. What does Jesus expect from those who follow him? (8:31-16:8)

The main point of Mark 4:35-8:30 is that for Jesus to be seen properly, Jesus must be viewed by faith. Without faith, Jesus is the one who is seen but not recognized and the one who is heard but not understood. We are wrapping up this first section and getting to the pivot point of the book so we can transition into discipleship.

Lesson 17 – Mark 8:14-30 – Notice how Jesus is patient and able to bring sight to the blind. Consider the process of the disciples seeing who Jesus is. cf. Matt 16:12, Jer 5:21; Ezek 12:2. Consider the following discussion questions.

  • What main observations in the text do you see?
  • How would this section of Scripture relate to a believer in Christ struggling to live out their faith?
  • How does the call of secrecy to the disciples help us think about the cross & the messiah? Are there any implications to us on this side of the cross?
