Freeing Truth: Part 5

Living in the Truth involves so many aspects of our lives. First, it means meditating on the Truth of God’s Word and believing it. It also means not only knowing and believing the Word, but living by it’s Truths. But Truth doesn’t end there.

We are called to speak the Truth and not be deceivers. 1 Peter 2:1-3 says, “So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.” We know our Lord is so good, and this knowledge should motivate us to long for purity and do away with deceit. When we live lives of Truth, we experience the great goodness of our God!

One of our residents shared with me how learning to live a Truth-filled life has set her free. Here is what she shared:

John 8:33 says, ‘truth shall make you free.’ That’s quite a bold statement. The real question here is how? How does truth make us free? We find that God is always truthful. We tend to focus on His grace alone, but…that’s not all there is to Him! I see how, in my own life, truth has set me free. I see God working in my life with truth.

For a long time, I didn’t see how truth would help me. It seemed like the best thing to do was to hide. Hide my problems. Hide how I was feeling. Hide the scars, both physical and emotional. When someone asked me how I was doing, the answer would always be, ‘I’m fine’ when the truth was I was drowning in my sin. In Christ, I found truth and love. I have started saying that I am better than I deserve.

God has given me the strength to be honest, and in doing so has given me a freedom that I know I don’t deserve but am so thankful to have.”

Freedom truly is a precious gift that the Lord wants to give us through Truth! Let’s commit today to live lives overflowing with genuine Truth, inside and out.

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
