Sunday Reflections: 03-29-2015 – God goes the extra mile

God goes the extra mile. That is incredibly comforting, and Sunday helped me meditate on that truth. As the spiritual leader of my family, I want to lead them to see how gracious our God is and to what great lengths he has gone to reveal Himself to us. When I go the extra mile for my family and others I am personifying how God interacts with us.

Thomas’ testimony, or better yet Jesus’ testimony of how He responded to Thomas’ unbelief helps me see how He relates to me when I don’t believe what God has revealed. He was so patient, so willing to meet Thomas where he was. John 20:29, helps me see that even though I wasn’t there, I am blessed as well.

Jesus said to him, Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.

I am in that category…I did not see the resurrected Jesus, but I am blessed that God has revealed the Gospel to me, so that I can believe in His finished work on the cross. Part of my job as a spiritual leader is to help my family know God’s word, so they can be blessed in believing what God says even though they don’t see Him right in front of them.

These verses of scripture are more evidence of God going the extra mile to reveal himself to us and show that we can place our faith and trust in Him.

Oh Lord, help me to believe your promises and what you say about yourself. Help me confess my unbelief to you and help me see your promises in scripture and see that you went the extra mile to reveal yourself, so that we may be blessed as we believe in your Son Jesus Christ.
