“How do you work this thing?”
Have you ever heard that phrase? It usually comes after a trip to the electronics store, a few agonizing minutes of unpackaging, with the result being a small device with a screen staring back at you, challenging you to try to figure it out.
A Distraction? A Frustration? Or a Tool?
Technology can be frustrating. It can also be distracting. How many times has the latest episode or gadgetry pulled us away from a task or quality time with our family, or with God. Is your wife frustrated that you gaze into your iPads pixels more than her eyes? (A picture of her on your smartphone doesn’t count.)
What if we could use technology as a tool that helps us draw closer to God?
Rather than something that is frustrating or distracting, technology can be a great means to learn more about who God is, and maximize time with our family. As believers we should strive to use the advancement of technology for our purposes. 2 Cor 5:9 states that our ambition is the pursuit of being pleasing to Him, no matter where we are–at home or absent, and wherever there is WiFi.
The Bible Tech Series
My goal in upcoming posts (which will be grouped in a Bible Tech series) is to identify software and hardware that we can leverage to know God’s Word better. We will look at online Bibles, desktop software, smartphones, e-readers, and anything else that comes out that can help us in the pursuit of good Bible tech. Many of you are already using a number of helpful tools. Please feel free to comment below and share what you have learned so we can all work together.
Hopefully this helps us be good stewards of our resources and our time. The goal is that we are able to use technology, rather than allowing it to distract us from our goal of being pleasing to the One who holds every electron in the universe together.
