{"id":917,"date":"2013-08-21T10:00:01","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T14:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/voh\/?p=917"},"modified":"2014-07-22T11:31:14","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T15:31:14","slug":"what-you-see-vs-what-you-get","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/voh\/2013\/08\/21\/what-you-see-vs-what-you-get\/","title":{"rendered":"What You See vs What You Get"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, former Bachelor contestant Gia Allemand passed away from the complications of her attempted suicide two days prior.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a link to the CNN article about Allemand&#8217;s death: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/08\/14\/showbiz\/gia-allemand-obit\/index.html\">http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/08\/14\/showbiz\/gia-allemand-obit\/index.html<\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>What strikes me about this tragedy is the discprepancy between a person&#8217;s outside and inside reality. On the outside, Allemand was a beautiful, young, smiling, and successful individual. Yet, she was lost enough on the inside to motivate her to hang herself in her home.<\/p>\n<p>So often &#8220;what you see is what you get&#8221; doesn&#8217;t seem true. Some of the most evil persons seem to have <!--more-->the most fruitful lives; while the seemingly &#8220;good&#8221; die young. I studied psychology in college, but still find myself returning to God&#8217;s Word as my foundation for who people are, what they want, and why they do what they do. Even though I try to discover the motives behind someone&#8217;s actions, I realize I can only see that far: to their actions. But, I&#8217;m so glad God looks farther. The Bible says in 1 Samual\u00a016:7,<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Not only does God look at the heart, but He has placed His word in our lives as a penetrating sword, <em><strong>&#8220;dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em>Even when I think I have it figured out, I&#8217;m reminded through tragedies like the death of Gia Allemand that I am easily fooled by appearances. Thankfully, God is not. I&#8217;m also reminded that while others may change and promenade as things they&#8217;re not, God is fully transparent and honest: He will never deceive anyone. God is truth and God never changes!<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>-James 1:17<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, former Bachelor contestant Gia Allemand passed away from the complications of her attempted suicide two days prior.
