Avery joined our intern team in July, and is blessing us with her skills in the kitchen and her desire to serve and encourage our residents. It is a joy to see the Lord bring us interns with different experiences, education and skills and then watch how He uses their varied talents to serve at VOH.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

My name is Avery and I am from California. Before coming to intern at Vision of Hope, I was a Family and Consumer Sciences major at The Master\u2019s University. I also have a certificate in interior design. I love spending time with my family, traveling, and learning about different cultures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was young. I can\u2019t say a specific date. I knew that I was a sinner and that I needed to be saved. Now I know that when I am walking in my flesh, I do not please God but with His Spirit I can do hard things. It was evident that God was sustaining me through my grief over my brother\u2019s death in 2014. God has shown me many things. For instance, His faithfulness when things are so hard, how He uses suffering to help me see other peoples pain, and His sovereignty in ordaining the events in everyone\u2019s lives. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span>How did you hear about vision of Hope? Why were you interested in coming to VOH to serve for a year?\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I heard about Vision of Hope through my mom. She is a biblical counselor (ACBC\/MABC). I wanted to serve at VOH because God gave me the heart to serve others. After reviewing my resume, I can see God\u2019s hand in everything I have been involved with from being a counselor for 4-6th grade girls at church to volunteering at nursing homes to inner city ministry. I have a passion for serving and VOH is a perfect place to serve and grow.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span>What are you excited to learn and grow in this year?\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

I\u2019m excited to learn how to help those who are struggling with serious issues and guide them towards the Hope that is found in Christ. This year I want to grow in humility and compassion for others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/span>If you were in charge of a meal for VOH, what would you fix?<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If I were to plan and cook a meal for the residents, it would be a hearty down-home meal. I would make baby back ribs, grilled corn on the cob and mac n cheese. We would eat outside on picnic tables on red and white gingham tablecloths. Texas BBQ is what I grew up eating and I think everyone should experience some good BBQ in their lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Texas BBQ sounds good to me! We\u2019re thankful for Avery and watching expectantly for the Lord to develop greater humility and compassion in her during her internship.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
