{"id":291,"date":"2012-08-20T12:00:44","date_gmt":"2012-08-20T16:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/voh\/?p=291"},"modified":"2014-07-22T11:34:39","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T15:34:39","slug":"journaling-to-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/voh\/2012\/08\/20\/journaling-to-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Journaling to Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A major focus\u00a0in the VOH house has been the importance of processing.\u00a0 You don\u2019t get to NOT think.\u00a0 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 addresses this issue in depth, emphasizing God\u2019s desire for us as Christians to hold our conclusions about reality up to the knowledge of God.\u00a0 Humans were designed to collect data, and arrive at conclusions of reality, but we too often do not work ourselves through the proper process of doing that <em>according to truth.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The \u201c5 points journal\u201d, as we call it, is one method of breaking down your conclusions about reality into categories, allowing you to weigh those conclusions against the truth and knowledge of God.\u00a0 The five categories are: Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Relational.\u00a0 The residents\u00a0are assigned the task of journaling through each of these areas, each day, as a way to initiate the process of processing. They have found it to be very challenging; it\u2019s hard work to think hard!<\/p>\n<p>2 Corinthians 10:3-4 is often talked about because of it\u2019s message regarding the spiritual warfare that we\u2019re engaged in as Christians.\u00a0 The battle begins in the mind, and unfortunately too many people, Christians included, are not training their minds to be sharp tools to be used for bringing glory and honor to God.\u00a0 Learning how to process is a skill and if you don\u2019t know how to do it, you need someone to teach you. \u201cThe fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One other type of journal that is commonly used at Vision of Hope is called the Think-Do-Want journal.
