We all struggle with desiring things other than God. Sometimes we even find ourselves putting a good thing above our relationship with God. When this happens, we know that these things have become an idol in our lives.<\/p>\n
It has been said that an idol can be defined in this way: when you are willing to sin in order to get something, or when you sin when you don’t get it, that thing, feeling, person, etc. is an idol to you.<\/p>\n
The Bible is clear that following idols brings great bondage. Jonah 2:8 states that \u201cThose who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.\u201d <\/b>But there is hope and freedom in the truth that God is worthy of our total worship and desire!<\/p>\n
One of our residents shared with me how these truths have impacted her live. She shared:<\/p>\n
\u201cI was following my idols and worshiping them. I regarded my idols and left my Lord behind. I did all I could to protect my idols. Being at VOH and really digging into God’s Word has helped me to realize that Jesus really is the answer!<\/i><\/p>\n
Jesus said that the truth will set you free and you shall be free indeed. I have been able to, by God’s grace, start putting my idols to death and following Jesus again. I am being set free more and more every day by God’s truth, and now I am wanting my idols less and less.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
