\u201cPride comes before a fall.\u201d Many of us have heard this phrase \u2013 taken from Proverbs 16:18 \u2013 jokingly stated to a cocky participant in a competitive event. But that’s not the only thing the Bible says about pride.<\/p>\n

All throughout the Bible, we see warnings against pride. To name a few: \u201cFor if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, <\/b>he deceives himself<\/b><\/i>.\u201d<\/b> (Gal. 6:3) \u201cDo you see a man who is wise in his own eyes? <\/b>There is more hope for a fool than for him<\/b><\/i>.\u201d<\/b> (Prov. 26:12) \u201cThe fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I <\/b>hate<\/b><\/i>.\u201d<\/b> (Prov. 8:13) \u201cLove is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; <\/b>it is not arrogant<\/b><\/i>\u201d<\/b> (1 Cor. 13:4) \u201cEveryone who is arrogant in heart <\/b>is an abomination to the Lord<\/b><\/i>; be assured, <\/b>he will not go unpunished<\/b><\/i>.\u201d<\/b> (Prov. 16:5).<\/p>\n

Pride is a big deal to God. He absolutely hates<\/i> pride, and we must learn to hate what He hates. Oftentimes we are not even aware of pride in our lives, but in reality it is a struggle for every one of us. Because the Bible makes it clear that pride is a big deal that must be dealt with, we must work to weed out the pride in our lives so that we can kill it. That’s what this week’s resource is going to help you to do.<\/p>\n

From Pride to Humility<\/em> is a small but powerful booklet by Dr. Stuart Scott that digs deep into the issue of pride. Within this booklet, Scott outlines the definitions of both pride and humility, and how God desires to work His attribute of humility in our lives. Scott lays our some powerfully convicting and practical manifestations of pride that one may see in his or her life, as well as manifestations of humility that we should be cultivating and growing. This booklet is direct and practical, leading the reader to understand biblically what must be done to kill pride and grow to be more like Christ in humility. Christ is our ultimate example of beautiful humility (Phil. 2:5-8). Christ humbly came down to an imperfect world filled with sinful people\u00a0to love and serve them. Praise the Lord that He wasn’t afraid to\u00a0do the dirty work of cleaning up our sin-cursed lives. We serve an incredibly humble God,\u00a0and if we desire to be more like Him, we must begin to put off the old, prideful self and become humble servant who are willing to get our hands dirty for the sake of others.<\/p>\n
