Growing up in elementary and jr. high school, I was generally one of the last ones picked for any team.\u00a0 It really had nothing to do with my skills but rather with my weight.\u00a0 I was\u00a0very overweight, and\u00a0it really impacted the other kids\u2019 opinions of me.\u00a0 I was a decent enough athlete, but I couldn\u2019t run as fast, \u00a0jump as high, or be as quick as many of my friends and peers.\u00a0 I wanted to be on the team, but my overweight condition impacted the desire that I had to\u00a0contribute positively.\u00a0 Later, in high school and college, I developed physically and dropped a lot of weight.\u00a0 My perspective on athletics and being on a team really changed.\u00a0 I felt very honored and thankful to be able to participate.\u00a0 I wanted to be an encouragement to the rest of my teammates, and I ultimately wanted our team to excel.<\/p>\n
I think that all of us want to be on the team!\u00a0\u00a0We all want\u00a0to contribute.\u00a0 But, it is hard when you want to be on the team\u00a0and nobody wants you. It\u2019s equally hard to see people who are on the team but who don\u2019t want to be on the team or see the team excel\u00a0in a positive way.<\/p>\n
I believe that attitudes like this surface in our day to day operations at Faith Christian School.\u00a0 The Lord has richly blessed us with many great “teammates” – or families.\u00a0 I cannot begin to tell you how thankful I am for folks who participated and served at this year’s Eagle Auction.\u00a0 What a great evening!\u00a0 We also have folks who serve in many other ways like SCRIP, Prayer Partners, School Kitchen, etc.\u00a0 Our school can be characterized by folks who\u00a0are on the team and\u00a0regardless of their position,\u00a0they contribute to the overall success of the team.<\/p>\n
Being part of the team at FCS includes the understanding that along with choosing Faith Christian School as your educational choice for your children,\u00a0 there is the additional responsibility\u00a0and blessing\u00a0of backing and support by ALL families.\u00a0 I receive a fair amount of input from folks during the course of the week.\u00a0 Here is a snippet from an\u00a0 appreciative and understanding parent:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cWe sent our son to a private school so that he could receive a \u201cChristian\u201d Education. It absolutely was a \u201cchoice\u201d that my family made.\u00a0However, paying for that \u201cchoice\u201d was also taken into consideration. We have had to sacrifice the \u201cextras\u201d so that we could afford to send him to Faith\u2026 These sacrifices help us to appreciate Faith!”<\/p>\n
Being a part of the team not only means being responsible for tuition\u00a0but also the extras (fees, fundraisers, supplies, trips, etc.)\u00a0\u00a0that are crucial for the continued success of the entire team.\u00a0 Some teammates have been blessed with unusual talent and ability, and it is a joy to see these folks contribute accordingly.\u00a0 It\u2019s also a blessing to see many others simply\u00a0\u201cdo what they can\u201d, and yet positively add to the overall direction of the team.<\/p>\n
A challenge that every team goes through is the goal to have every player on the same page and playing their position well.\u00a0\u00a0How should a team react when players are either not contributing or are playing out of position?\u00a0\u00a0 I Thessalonians 5:14, gives us some direction:\u00a0 \u201cAnd we urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all men.\u201d\u00a0 To admonish is to advise someone to do or not do something.\u00a0 If you are part of the FCS Team and you wonder if you are playing out of position – please – ask your teammates or coach; look for ways to get involved; look for ways to make the team stronger.\u00a0\u00a0There are so many different ways to make a difference here at Faith.\u00a0 To sit on the sidelines and not be involved can be disheartening to watch.\u00a0 We have a great need for team players and the talents and opportunity that each of them possess to make a great impact at Faith.<\/p>\n
As a school \u201cteam\u201d – we are in some amazingly crucial games right now.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Our boys basketball theme this year is \u201cAll In!\u201d\u00a0 We need the entire team to be running
\non all cylinders, in the same direction.\u00a0\u00a0 We need all of our families to be contributing teammates and to help us have a successful and rewarding year.\u00a0 I look forward to running this race together\u2026.
