The\u00a0significance of grandparents in a child’s life cannot be overstated, and their influence lives on for generations.\u00a0 Proverbs 17:6 says, “Grandchildren are the crown of old men, and the glory of sons is their fathers.”\u00a0 Deuteronomy 4:9 gives this\u00a0powerful command–\u201cOnly give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.”<\/p>\n

One way that Faith Christian School values these relationships is through our annual Grandparents’ Day in the elementary school.\u00a0 Around 400 guests,\u00a0including grandparents\u00a0and close “grandfriends,” visited FCS on Oct. 7 to make memories together with their grandchildren.<\/p>\n

Building “Firm Foundations”\"\"<\/a><\/h2>\n

In the program portion of the morning, 13 pianists provided a lovely prelude, and the 6th grade band sounded strong and played very well.\u00a0 Children in grades 3, 5, and 6 sang about the\u00a0role of grandparents in laying foundations for life and eternity.\u00a0 These songs tenderly tugged at many hearts and memories, including mine!\u00a0 Other grades presented music that lifted up Christ as our glorious foundation.\u00a0 One positive comment I heard among many was from a grandparent who was amazed that kindergarteners, 1st, and 2nd graders could memorize and present such wonderful songs.<\/p>\n

The 5th grade\u00a0also presented a fun and very creative\u00a0interpretation of “The Three Little Pigs”\u00a0that illustrated the principles of the wise man and the foolish man from\u00a0Matthew 7.<\/p>\n

Time with Grandchildren<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>Children were able to spend time with grandparents both before and after the program.\u00a0 We appreciate LifeTouch’s hard work and generosity in\u00a0providing a complimentary picture for each set of grandparents–hopefully making the time in line worth the wait.\u00a0 (We are already talking about ways to reduce the time spent in line next time.)<\/p>\n

Teachers had\u00a0prepared their rooms and activities to\u00a0include dozens of visitors for some special one-on-one classroom time after the program.\u00a0 This is always a very rewarding and meaningful highlight of the day!<\/p>\n

Supporting\u00a0Elementary Progress<\/h2>\n

At Grandparents’ Day events over the years, grandparents and others have committed their prayers and generously provided around $20,000 for several key projects to support our elementary students.\u00a0 These gifts have enabled\u00a0FCS to acquire more library books, new science and technology equipment,\u00a0plus\u00a0a high quality, outdoor basketball goal.<\/p>\n

This year, over $7,000 was given\u00a0toward the purchase of a mobile netbook computer lab and charging cart.\u00a0 This was our highest amount ever, including matching funds from a private foundation. \u00a0We are close to what is needed but not there yet.\u00a0\u00a0Grandparents (or anyone) can still give to FCS\u00a0for this project through Oct. 31.<\/p>\n

We are grateful to God for His many blessings that were made evident\u00a0on Grandparents’ Day!<\/strong>\u00a0 This event helps us in\u00a0multiple ways to accomplish our mission–“Helping parents raise their children to live effectively in God’s world.”<\/p>\n
