{"id":36,"date":"2011-02-19T17:33:32","date_gmt":"2011-02-19T22:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fcslafayette.org\/?p=36"},"modified":"2014-07-21T11:10:14","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T15:10:14","slug":"homecoming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/school\/homecoming\/","title":{"rendered":"Homecoming 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Friday I was talking to a friend who moved here from Alabama, and I mentioned that I was headed to Homecoming.\u00a0 Her response was, \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s different between here and the South.\u00a0 We have our Homecoming during football games, and you have yours during basketball season.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #444444;\">Why Faith&#8217;s Homecoming is Different<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The sport involved in the celebration is not the only thing that is different about Faith Christian School\u2019s Homecoming celebration. \u00a0<!--more-->I have been to at least seven Homecomings at Faith Christian School, and each time I am struck by the godly focus of the event.\u00a0 Not only is it a time to cheer on the home team, but it is a time to celebrate the virtuous women that represent our school.<\/p>\n<p>In early December we take the time as a school body to study what Scripture has to say about virtuous women.\u00a0 When it comes time to elect the Homecoming Queen, the choice is not based on popularity, but on the characteristics laid out in Scripture.\u00a0 This allows the student body to select the candidate that will best represent our school and the Lord.<\/p>\n<h2>The\u00a0Big Night<\/h2>\n<p>The Friday festivities started with cheering on the Junior Varsity Boys&#8217; Basketball team. The boys did a great job of playing hard and getting the crowd cheering excitedly!\u00a0 While the boys were playing, alumni were filtering in, greeting old friends and making new ones up on the walking track.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_104\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-104 \" title=\"McGinty_queen2\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523134109\/McGinty_queen2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-104\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Homecoming 2011 queen Michelle McGinty<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As the game ended, the suspense in the gym was palpable.\u00a0 Everyone was ready to participate in the ceremony that makes Faith Christian School Homecoming very unique.\u00a0 The ceremony is a time where not only the girls are honored, but also their parents.\u00a0 One representative from the 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 10<sup>th<\/sup>, and 11<sup>th<\/sup> grades and three from the 12<sup>th<\/sup> grade are escorted onto the court by their father. This is a special time to recognize the impact the parents have had in the young woman\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very special time of honoring the Lord and what He has been doing in the lives of each of these young ladies.\u00a0 When it comes time to crown one of\u00a0three seniors as queen, it is so neat to see the girl honored, not because she won a popularity contest, but because of her godly and virtuous character.\u00a0 This year&#8217;s Homecoming queen was Michelle McGinty, and it was so special to see Michelle honored for her gentle and kind spirit and great love for her Lord!<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>After the ceremony, it was time to play ball!\u00a0The boys did a great job of playing hard, and working together to pull off a 1 point Homecoming victory!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-106\" title=\"Homecoming-bball\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523134108\/Homecoming-bball1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523134108\/Homecoming-bball1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523134108\/Homecoming-bball1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the celebrating began to die down, the clean up began. \u00a0It is so neat to me to see everyone pitching in to clean up and to get the building back in order. \u00a0I love seeing that people use this time of serving to fellowship and continue to make friends while getting things done! \u00a0Overall, it was a great night of celebrating, as a school family, what the Lord has done for Faith Christian School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Friday I was talking to a friend who moved here from Alabama, and I mentioned that I was headed to Homecoming.\u00a0 Her response was, \u201cThat\u2019s what\u2019s different between here and the South.\u00a0 We have our Homecoming during football games, and you have yours during basketball season.\u201d Why Faith&#8217;s Homecoming is Different The sport involved&#8230;
