{"id":1822,"date":"2014-02-19T09:20:25","date_gmt":"2014-02-19T14:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/school\/?p=1822"},"modified":"2014-07-21T11:06:16","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T15:06:16","slug":"dont-quit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/school\/dont-quit\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Quit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Sheryl Borgman<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Recently, I was asked to join the coaching staff of the FCS girls\u2019 basketball team.\u00a0 The team hadn&#8217;t won a game until recently.\u00a0 Obviously, when the team first started practicing last fall, the girls and coaches thought their season would have gone differently.\u00a0 However, when reality didn&#8217;t reach their expectations, it was easy for them to get discouraged or defeated.<\/p>\n<p>One of my roles with the team and also in my classroom has been <!--more-->to encourage our young people to trust the Lord even when their circumstances don\u2019t align with the outcome.\u00a0 Two verses that I continually bring before the students are\u00a0Ecclesiastes 9:10a <em>\u201cWhatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might;\u201d<\/em> and James 1:2-4 <em>\u201cConsider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. \u00a0Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking anything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is easy to continue a task well when we win, get good grades, or achieve success. However, when we finish well even through hardship, we develop endurance while God is glorified.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523133940\/Varsity-Girl2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1826\" alt=\"Varsity Girl2\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523133940\/Varsity-Girl2.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523133940\/Varsity-Girl2.jpg 1095w, https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523133940\/Varsity-Girl2-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523133940\/Varsity-Girl2-768x532.jpg 768w, https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/20170523133940\/Varsity-Girl2-665x461.jpg 665w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>James tells us to consider it joy when we face trials because God uses that trial to make us stronger.\u00a0 When I was in my early twenties, I traveled all over the United States with a basketball team called The All-American Redheads.
