{"id":1736,"date":"2013-11-22T16:44:10","date_gmt":"2013-11-22T21:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/school\/?p=1736"},"modified":"2014-07-21T11:06:42","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T15:06:42","slug":"weekly-insights-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/school\/weekly-insights-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Insight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Partnering with parents to help train and equip students to live effectively in God&#8217;s world&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0is the mission statement of Faith Christian School.\u00a0\u00a0I, along with the other members of our school&#8217;s administration, seek to communicate parts of this mission to students and parents whenever it is appropriate because we believe that much of what is accomplished here at FCS should flow out of our mission.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Every\u00a0Thursday\u00a0morning I have the wonderful opportunity to pray with a group of dads.\u00a0\u00a0Our group has been meeting for the past 3 years and the fellowship with these men serves as a highlight of many of my weeks.\u00a0\u00a0This past\u00a0Thursday, one of the discussions focused on work and worker expectations.\u00a0\u00a0It made me think of specific ways that we can prepare students to be good and productive workers.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few specific examples of the lessons our students can learn that will make them productive and attractive employees in their future:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Punctuality.<\/strong> Arriving to school and class on time, prepared, and ready to be\u00a0productive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work Ethic<\/strong>. This quality is becoming rarer and precious jewel.\u00a0\u00a0If students and\u00a0individuals are willing to work hard, many times this automatically separates them from the rest of the pack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integrity.<\/strong> Honesty, faithfulness, and truthfulness are all lessons to be taught as\u00a0well as modeled for our students to see.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Swears to their hurt.<\/strong> This person keeps their word\/commitment even if a better &#8220;deal&#8221; comes\u00a0along.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finish what you start.<\/strong> Sometimes it can be easy to quit or to make excuses.\u00a0\u00a0It&#8217;s important to\u00a0finish what we start.\u00a0\u00a0This includes projects, extra-curricular activities,\u00a0and other commitments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Listen to the words of Psalm 15 and see if you can see the emphasis on character and integrity in these verses:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent?\u00a0\u00a0Who shall dwell on your holy hill?\u00a0\u00a02 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;\u00a0\u00a03 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor,\u00a0\u00a0nor takes up a reproach against his friend;\u00a0\u00a04 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord;\u00a0\u00a0who swears to his own hurt and does not change;\u00a05 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent.\u00a0\u00a0He who does these things shall never be moved.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As parents, I understand the desire to see our children have the very best life.\u00a0\u00a0Many times these thoughts and desires include college, marriage, careers, etc.\u00a0\u00a0While these factors are somewhat important, I think that we would agree that at the end of the day the goal for our children is that they grow to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, and mind and that they love others.\u00a0\u00a0As we seek to train and equip, I pray that we will not miss the daily lessons and opportunities to instill character qualities in the hearts and lives of our young people, through the daily witness and example of our lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Partnering with parents to help train and equip students to live effectively in God&#8217;s world&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0is the mission statement of Faith Christian School.\u00a0\u00a0I, along with the other members of our school&#8217;s administration, seek to communicate parts of this mission to students and parents whenever it is appropriate because we believe that much of what is accomplished&#8230;
