\"Elementary<\/a><\/span>Our art department is growing by leaps and bounds!\u00a0 This is consistent with helping students be good stewards of their role as God\u2019s image-bearers and creators of culture.\u00a0 Students experience a wide and growing range of art instruction and hands-on activities<\/strong> while learning elements and principles of art and design at the national standard age-appropriate levels.\u00a0 All\u00a01st – 6th graders enjoy art class every week in the high school art room. \u00a0A weekly after-school art club was also recently started.<\/p>\n

Students\u00a0use\u00a0a variety of media from clay sculpting,\u00a0paper manipulation, painting (watercolor, tempera or acrylic), and even\u00a0yarn\u00a0gluing!\u00a0 They also\u00a0create collages,\u00a0use drawing media\u00a0(oil pastel, colored pencil,\u00a0pencil and crayon), make crafts, and do printmaking.<\/p>\n

Community Opportunities<\/h2>\n

Students recently created art to classical symphony music (such as Mendelssohn, Debussy, and Vivaldi) for the \u201cSymphony in Color<\/a>\u201d competition sponsored by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.\u00a0 Six elementary art students were selected to represent FCS, and 4th\u00a0grader Elena Lendermon became a state finalist!<\/strong> Her artwork will be displayed in the Indiana State Museum.<\/p>\n

This year FCS is participating in\u00a0“The Joy of Children’s Art<\/a>” annual youth art show hosted by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation (TAF). The exhibition runs through March 25 in the Historic Wells Building. Works are on display from students in various schools, including these students from FCS: Kate Starr, Hope Toyra, Elly Hume, Alexander Deen, Samuel Overly, Kielyn Ivy, and Quaid Pearson.<\/p>\n

New Technology<\/h2>\n

The new\u00a0interactive projector graciously purchased for the art room at the Eagle Auction is\u00a0\u00a0mounted and in daily use!\u00a0 This will make art history come to life and will open many more teaching options about particular artists and historical artwork.<\/p>\n

Mission<\/h2>\n
