We would encourage you to use the ideas below to review Sunday\u2019s lesson with your family.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>David\u2019s Heart for God<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong>\u00a01 Samuel 16-17<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ask your child:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why did God select David to be Israel\u2019s next king? <em>David was a man after God\u2019s own heart.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>How did David defend God\u2019s honor? <em>David fought Goliath, who mocked Israel and its God.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Emphasize this principle:\u00a0<\/strong>God does amazing things with hearts that belong to him. Therefore, we should live for His glory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Practice:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examine your heart and learn what pleases the Lord.<\/li>\n<li>Glorify God with your thoughts and actions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sing: <\/strong>\u201cOnly a Boy Named David\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prepare for next week:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>2 Samuel 1:1-2:4a; 7<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memorize for Jan 8-Feb 5:<\/strong> <strong>\u201cLet the word of Christ richly dwell within you<\/strong>, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.\u201d <strong>Colossians 3:16<\/strong>*<\/p>\n<p>* Preschool verse in bold<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following lesson was taught in our children\u2019s Sunday School classes on Sunday, January 29.
