We would encourage you to use the ideas below to review Sunday\u2019s lesson with your family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jesus Defines Discipleship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Passage:\u00a0 <\/strong>Matthew 16:13\u201317, 21\u201327<\/p>\n<p><strong>Principle:\u00a0 <\/strong>The cost of following Jesus is denying oneself and following Him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Praise:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u201cChange My Heart, O God\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prompt:\u00a0 <\/strong>Ask your child these questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What did the Father reveal to Peter?<\/li>\n<li>What does it means to die to yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Christ?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Practice:\u00a0 <\/strong>Help your child apply these truths in the following ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By denying himself, taking up his cross, and following Christ.<\/li>\n<li>By praising God that He will one day return and reward those who faithfully followed Him.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>This Week:\u00a0 <\/strong>As a family, read selected portions of Matthew 16:13\u201317, 21\u201327.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Week:\u00a0 <\/strong>Matthew 17:1\u20138<\/p>\n<p><strong>Memory Verse:\u00a0 <\/strong>Then Jesus said to His disciples,\u00a0<strong>\u201cIf anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself<\/strong>, and\u00a0take up his cross <strong>and follow Me<\/strong>.\u201d \u00a0<strong>Matthew 16:24*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>* Preschool verse in bold print<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following lesson was taught in our children\u2019s Sunday School classes on Sunday, July 17.
