{"id":269,"date":"2012-02-07T15:30:02","date_gmt":"2012-02-07T20:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/faithkids\/?p=269"},"modified":"2014-07-22T11:08:46","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T15:08:46","slug":"gospel-centered-teaching-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/faithkids\/gospel-centered-teaching-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Gospel-Centered Teaching, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cTeacher, I want to ask Jesus to be my Savior.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">What would you give to hear those words from the mouth of a child in your Sunday school class?\u00a0 Maybe the next question should be, \u201cWhat would you do if you DID hear those words?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">In the next couple blogs, I want to share some ways I\u2019ve learned over the years to keep the gospel front and center in your teaching, and then how to lead a child to Christ if they respond to your presentation of the gospel!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Let\u2019s start with how you can share the gospel in just about any lesson that you happen to be teaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Rabbit Trail #1<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The method I\u2019ve learned is something akin to a \u201cgospel rabbit-trail.\u201d Let\u2019s face it\u2014the actual accounts of Jesus, the cross, and the empty tomb are restricted to a relatively small portion of the Bible.\u00a0 So how do you weave the gospel story into the story of, say, the Battle of Jericho, without forcing something into the Bible that isn\u2019t there?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The solution is gospel rabbit-trails.\u00a0 The first gospel rabbit-trail is the \u201cMAN\u2019S NEED RABBIT-TRAIL.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">You see, every story in the Bible involves a problem of some sort. \u00a0That\u2019s just one of the requirements of a good story.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s a big wall, a big giant, or a horrible disease, every Bible story has some sort of conflict.\u00a0 There may be multiple conflicts, but the one you want to look for is the God-sized conflict.\u00a0 Look for the problem in the story that only God can solve.\u00a0 When you find that, you\u2019ve found the jumping-off spot for your first\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u2026rabbit trail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This rabbit trail is the \u201csin\u201d rabbit trail.\u00a0 Let\u2019s say you\u2019re teaching the story of Naaman, the Syrian general in 2 Kings who had leprosy.\u00a0 You could say something like, \u201cNaaman had a disease that no doctor could cure.\u00a0 Only God could get rid of it.\u00a0 And YOU have a problem that only God can cure, too; it\u2019s called sin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Voila!\u00a0 You just jumped outside your storyline into the first part of the gospel: man\u2019s NEED of a Savior.\u00a0 Talk about sin for a while.\u00a0 Give examples of what it looks like in kids\u2019 lives. What does the Bible say about the punishment for sin?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Now, when you\u2019re ready to go back into your story, just reverse the rabbit trail: \u201cYou and I have a sin problem that only God can solve.\u00a0 Naaman had a skin disease that only God could heal.\u201d\u00a0 And you\u2019re back on track!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Rabbit Trail #2<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Now, you\u2019re going to do the same thing with GOD\u2019S SOLUTION FOR SIN.\u00a0 Every Bible story with a God-sized problem has a God-sized solution that is offered.\u00a0 This solution provides your jumping-off point for your second gospel rabbit-trail.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Let\u2019s go back to the Naaman story.\u00a0 You get to the place where Naaman comes up out of the Jordan River, and he\u2019s clean!\u00a0 From there, you segue with something like, \u201cGod took care of Naaman\u2019s disease!\u00a0 God was the only one who could do it, just as He is the only one who can take care of your sin problem.\u00a0 You see, God made a way for your sins to be washed away.\u00a0 He sent His son\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Not too difficult, is it?\u00a0 Just remember to look for the God-sized problem and the God-sized solution in each story and you&#8217;ll be able share God\u2019s good news every time you teach!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You can naturally work the gospel into almost any lesson that you&#8217;ll be teaching.
