The following lesson was taught in our children’s Sunday School classes on Sunday, January 22. We would encourage you to use the ideas below to review Sunday’s lesson with your family.
Israel and Its King Reject God
Read: 1 Samuel 8-12; 13:1-14; 15:1-34
Ask your child:
- Why was Israel’s request for a king sinful? They rejected God as King and wanted to be like the sinful nations around them.
- What was wrong with Saul’s actions? Saul was concerned with serving himself more than God and disregarded God’s instructions.
Emphasize this principle: The Lord is our King. Therefore, we should submit to his rule over our lives.
Practice:
- Trust God when life gets hard.
- Obey God completely as your King.
- Repent of sins quickly.
Sing: “Trust and Obey”
Prepare for next week: 1 Samuel 16-17
Memorize for Jan 8-Feb 5: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16*
