{"id":521,"date":"2013-03-25T20:01:01","date_gmt":"2013-03-25T20:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/community\/?p=521"},"modified":"2014-07-21T16:35:19","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T16:35:19","slug":"dont-be-afraid-of-triathlon-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/community\/dont-be-afraid-of-triathlon-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Be Afraid of Triathlon Training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but when I hear the word <em>triathlon<\/em>, I instantly think of insanely in-shape people who look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, train five hours a day and eat nothing but organic fruits and vegetables.\u00a0 These people have no lives, except training, and although they are elite in their athleticism, their goals are completely unattainable to the common man or woman. \u00a0I liken it to being a brain surgeon. \u00a0Sure, I\u2019d like to be able to do that, but I just wasn\u2019t born with the ability, so it\u2019s never going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>Actually it makes me sad, because I know there are many benefits to the kind of workout required to complete a triathlon. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livestrong.com\/article\/405724-what-are-the-health-benefits-of-triathlons\/\">Livestrong.com,<\/a> by running, swimming and biking, you are working out your entire body. Regular training sessions will increase your cardio fitness, muscular strength and endurance. It improves your heart and lung functioning, and you will not get out of breath as soon because your working muscles will be supplied with oxygenated blood more quickly. And you will be able to train longer and harder as your endurance improves. It helps you lose weight and have more energy. And, it keeps you from getting bored. \u00a0I don\u2019t know about you, but I can only run so long before feeling like I\u2019m gonna lose it.\u00a0 The monotony alone makes it hard to continue.<\/p>\n<p>However, it seems like I was a little mistaken (and overdramatic) in my fear of triathlons. Maybe they are not as unattainable as I thought, and you don\u2019t have to be born with crazy athletic ability in order to do one. \u00a0In fact, all you need is a little training. \u00a0And that\u2019s why I am so excited that <a href=\"http:\/\/ourcommunitycenter.org\/\">Faith Community Ministries<\/a> is partnering with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tri-n-runlafayette.com\/\">Tri-N-Run<\/a> to start <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithlafayette.org\/community\/athletics_fitness\/triathlon-training-program\/\">Triathlon Training<\/a>! \u00a0The training takes place at Faith Community Center and will be led by Travis Butts (a USAT Level 1 Coach!) \u00a0Clinics include running, swimming, biking,<br \/>\ntransitions, and nutrition! \u00a0There are six individual clinics (more as needed) and daily training schedules to help you keep at it! \u00a0Plus, a short sleeve technical shirt, and let\u2019s be honest, showing off by wearing the shirts are half the reason we do this right?
