{"id":174,"date":"2011-08-30T18:28:48","date_gmt":"2011-08-30T18:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fcmlafayette.org\/?p=174"},"modified":"2014-07-21T16:35:59","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T16:35:59","slug":"beyond-the-game-strengthening-relationships-through-fcm-youth-soccer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/community\/beyond-the-game-strengthening-relationships-through-fcm-youth-soccer\/","title":{"rendered":"Beyond the Game: Strengthening Relationships through FCM Youth Soccer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-189\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/20170523174447\/FCM-Soccer1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/20170523174447\/FCM-Soccer1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/17\/20170523174447\/FCM-Soccer1-300x97.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s that time of year again!\u00a0 Soccer season is about to start.\u00a0 The focus of the FCM Youth Soccer League  program is to offer all children the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of  soccer in a safe, supportive, and fun environment conducive to developing both  athletic and team skills.\u00a0 In addition to  developing these skills, the league can also be used to build and strengthen  relationships.\u00a0 Here are some practical  suggestions that can assist in building these relationships.<\/p>\n<h2>Strengthening Family Relationships:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Reinforce  Lessons<\/strong>: At Faith Community Ministries, we believe that sports are about  more than just developing skills and having fun (although we work really hard  at both of those). We also want kids to learn important life lessons&#8211;not based  on a vague moral code, but based on the Bible. Here are some specific ways you  can help reinforce those lessons off the field:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Practice  the memory verse<\/strong>: Each day practice the weekly memory verse with your child  and talk about what it means.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ask  meaningful questions<\/strong>: Ask them the basics&#8211;like what they liked, didn&#8217;t  like, etc. But seize the opportunities to discuss other meaningful points: What  did you think about how Johnny responded when x happened? What&#8217;s the right way  to respond? How did you show God&#8217;s love for others today?
