{"id":6793,"date":"2017-01-12T13:52:20","date_gmt":"2017-01-12T18:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/church\/?p=6793"},"modified":"2017-01-20T13:50:30","modified_gmt":"2017-01-20T18:50:30","slug":"abf-series-the-gospel-of-mark-lesson-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/church\/abf-series-the-gospel-of-mark-lesson-2\/","title":{"rendered":"ABF Series: The Gospel of Mark Lesson 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Review<\/h2>\n<p>In our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faithlafayette.org\/church\/ministries\/adult_ministries\/adult_bible_fellowships\">Adult Bible Fellowships<\/a>\u00a0we learned in our bible study over the Gospel of Mark that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The book of Mark is a biography of Jesus&#8230;so it is good to ask what does the author want us to learn about Jesus<\/li>\n<li>The author writes to\u00a0Roman Christians who grew up in unbelieving homes without the background of Jewish Customs and Scripture.<\/li>\n<li>Mark wrote to Christians in Rome to encourage and strengthen their faith.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>That encouragement would be so important as Roman citizens appeared to have a low view of Christ (note the Graffiti image below) as he\u00a0is God who was killed at the hands of the Romans. This passage helps us exult Christ, the one who humbled himself for us.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<figure style=\"width: 220px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/a\/a9\/AlexGraffito.svg\/220px-AlexGraffito.svg.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"293\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alexamenos worships his god<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cUnless the Roman Christians understood well the person and work of Jesus, they would be bothered by the shame of their Savior. So Mark seeks to show that Jesus was not a weakling who achieved little and was finally executed in disgrace by Rome. No, he was a powerful Savior whose life, ministry, and even his death was a glorious, powerful victory. -R.
