{"id":599,"date":"2011-01-31T08:00:11","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T13:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.fbclafayette.org\/?p=599"},"modified":"2011-12-12T09:28:30","modified_gmt":"2011-12-12T14:28:30","slug":"digging-deeper-in-exodus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/church\/digging-deeper-in-exodus\/","title":{"rendered":"Digging Deeper In Exodus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-620\" style=\"margin-left: 6px; margin-bottom: 6px;\" title=\"Digging-Deeper-in-Exodus\" src=\"https:\/\/faith-blog-assets.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/20170523133755\/Digging-Deeper-in-Exodus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"113\" \/>FBC has been studying the book of Exodus so far this year in conjunction with our 2011 theme<em> Living Life Together<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 The book of Exodus details how God wants to create a people for Himself and dwell among their midst.\u00a0 God continues that plan today through His local churches across the world.<\/p>\n<p>Each week on Mondays during the Exodus series, this blog will go a bit deeper into Exodus.\u00a0 Also, questions about Exodus are encouraged in the comments.\u00a0 I will be happy to address them.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t have a clue what Exodus is all about?\u00a0 Well here is a little strategy for reading the book of Exodus to provide the framework for getting all the nuggets of truth out of this great book.<!--more--> Read the beginning and ending.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 If you read the beginning and ending of the book, you begin to notice some themes that are developed in the middle of the book.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>God Blessing and Filling the Earth with His People<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Notice the key words of \u201cbless\u201d and \u201cfill\u201d in Exodus 1:7 and their repetition at the end of Exodus.\u00a0 Notice what they have in common with the original creation mandate in Gen 1:28.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gen 1: 28 God <strong><em>blessed<\/em><\/strong> them; and God said to them, \u201c<strong><em>Be fruitful and multiply<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong><em>fill<\/em><\/strong> the earth<\/li>\n<li>Ex. 1:7 But the sons of <strong><em>Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied<\/em><\/strong>, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled<em> <\/em>with them.<\/li>\n<li>Ex. 39:43<sup> <\/sup>Moses inspected the work and saw<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <\/span>that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded. So <strong><em>Moses blessed them<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Ex. 40:34<sup> <\/sup>Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord <strong><em>filled the tabernacle.<\/em><\/strong> <sup>35 <\/sup>Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the Lord <strong><em>filled the tabernacle<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>God desires to bless His people by filling the earth with them and then filling them with His glory so that they may spread His fame across the earth.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Laboring for the Kingdom of God instead of the Kingdom of Man<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>At the beginning of Exodus, God\u2019s people are enlisted to be the builders of Pharaoh&#8217;s kingdom.\u00a0 In reality they are Abraham\u2019s descendents and are servants of the one true God, Yahweh.\u00a0\u00a0 At the end of the Exodus story, they are no longer building for Pharaoh.\u00a0 God has made them His special people (Exodus 19:6).\u00a0 And, they are building again, but this time not for Pharaoh, but for God\u2014His dwelling place among them, the tabernacle.\u00a0 So the beginning and the ending of the Exodus story demonstrate how God wants to take a people from building that kingdom of man to establishing the Kingdom of God on this earth.\u00a0 Remember Jesus\u2019 prayer in Matthew 6 \u2014\u201cThy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Transitioning from Slavery to Service<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When you think of Exodus, what do you think of?\u00a0 Many would say, \u201cthe parting of the Red Sea,\u201d or \u201cthe plagues,\u201d or \u201cthe slavery of the people.\u201d\u00a0 In Exodus, God\u2019s people transition from slavery at the beginning of the book to servants of God at the end of the book.\u00a0 The literal slavery experience of God\u2019s people is picked up later in Scriptures and used as a metaphor for our slavery to sin.\u00a0 This bondage is broken when Jesus Christ sets an individual free and makes the individual His servant.<\/p>\n<p>Struggling to make sense of it all?\u00a0 Get the proper framework with these three themes and watch how the story develops.\u00a0 The beginning and the ending of the story give the story away.\u00a0 I hope you will enjoy the time in Exodus with us here at FBC.\u00a0 For those who want some more intense reading on this topic, here is an intense <a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.gordon.edu\/hu\/bi\/Ted_Hildebrandt\/OTeSources\/02-Exodus\/Text\/Articles\/Leder-ExodusLearning-CTJ.pdf\">article<\/a>.\u00a0 Any questions from chapters 1-6 yet?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FBC has been studying the book of Exodus so far this year in conjunction with our 2011 theme Living Life Together.\u00a0\u00a0 The book of Exodus details how God wants to create a people for Himself and dwell among their midst.\u00a0 God continues that plan today through His local churches across the world.
