{"id":5544,"date":"2014-06-10T14:41:47","date_gmt":"2014-06-10T18:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/church\/?p=5544"},"modified":"2014-07-21T10:04:28","modified_gmt":"2014-07-21T14:04:28","slug":"gods-perfect-love-in-christ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.faithlafayette.org\/church\/gods-perfect-love-in-christ\/","title":{"rendered":"God&#8217;s Perfect Love In Christ"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the last couple of months, our church family is hearing a series of sermons in 1 Corinthians 13 \u2014 the \u201cchapter of love\u201d \u2014 on the characteristics of the biblical love. Thinking through each one of them, I decided to make an exercise and cross-reference the characteristics of love from 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NASB) to the love that God showed towards us in Christ. Take a look!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>love is patient,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate <b>His perfect patience<\/b> as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.<\/i>\u201d 1 Timothy 1:16<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>love is kind and is not jealous;<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>But when the <b>kindness of God our Savior and His love<\/b> for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis <!--more-->of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,<\/i>\u201d Titus 3:4\u20135<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>love does not brag and is not arrogant,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, <b>did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself<\/b>, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, <b>He humbled Himself by becoming obedient<\/b> to the point of death, even death on a cross.<\/i>\u201d Philippians 2:5\u20138<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>does not act unbecomingly;<\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>\u201cCome to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. \u201cTake My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for <b>I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls<\/b>. \u201cFor My yoke is easy and My burden is light.\u201d<\/i>\u201d Matthew 11:28\u201330<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>it does not seek its own,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>For even <b>Christ did not please Himself<\/b>; but as it is written, \u201cThe reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.\u201d<\/i>\u201d Romans 15:3<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>is not provoked,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>When they came to the place called The Skull, there <b>they crucified Him<\/b> and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. <b>But Jesus was saying, \u201cFather, forgive them<\/b>; for they do not know what they are doing.\u201d And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.<\/i>\u201d Luke 23:33\u201334<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>does not take into account a wrong suffered,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that <b>God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them<\/b>, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.<\/i>\u201d 2 Corinthians 5:18\u201319<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>does not rejoice in unrighteousness,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning. <b>The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.<\/b><\/i>\u201d 1 John 3:8<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>but rejoices with the truth;<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, \u201cIf you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and <b>you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free<\/b>.\u201d<\/i>\u201d John 8:31\u201332<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>bears all things,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>and <b>He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross<\/b>, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.<\/i>\u201d 1 Peter 2:24<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>believes all things,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>For by grace you have been <b>saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God<\/b>;<\/i>\u201d Ephesians 2:8<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>hopes all things,<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, <b>who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace<\/b>, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.<\/i>\u201d 2 Thessalonians 2:16\u201317<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h2><i>endures all things.<\/i><\/h2>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201c<i>For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing,\u201d \u2014 <b>nothing \u2014 \u201cwill be able to separate us from the love of God<\/b>, <strong>which is in Christ Jesus our Lord<\/strong>.<\/i>\u201d Romans 8:38\u201339<\/p>\n<p>What a perfect love that God has loved us in Christ!
