It\u2019s Tuesday night again in the Lees household…do you know what that means?\u00a0 Date Night<\/em>!<\/p>\n

Every week my wife and I try to set aside two nights specifically for spending time together.\u00a0 If it\u2019s Tuesday, you can bet that we\u2019re probably not available to talk – because we\u2019re out on a date!<\/p>\n

Over the course of the past four years, a lot has changed in our budget and in the economy.\u00a0 Have you noticed that everything is more expensive lately? \u00a0Well, we\u2019re not about to let those hurdles keep us from enjoying a nice time together.\u00a0 After four years of consistently dating my beautiful wife, I thought it was about time to share with others some of our secrets for a budget-friendly, yet very entertaining date. That\u2019s why we\u2019ve titled this blog post, \u201cFive Dates for $15<\/em>\u201d. \u00a0We\u2019ll begin with some basic tips for creating budget-friendly dates <\/strong>and finish by listing our personal top five.<\/p>\n

Find those Deals!<\/h2>\n

Essential to any budget-friendly date is knowledge of your town\u2019s daily\/weekly deals.\u00a0 Tippecanoe County is full of restaurants that serve up specials on different days\/nights of the week.\u00a0 We have saved many a dollar by visiting BW3s for their wing specials on Tues\/Weds or meeting up for the B1G1 lunch special at Java Roasters on Thursday.\u00a0 These are just two of many specials you can find in our local community.\u00a0 (Please share your local \u201cdeals\u201d in the comments section below!)<\/em><\/p>\n

Another tip is to find the places where the portion sizes are out of control!\u00a0 Many American restaurants are serving enough food to feed two people from a single entr\u00e9e.\u00a0 For example, we love to head over to Spaghetti\u2019s for their delicious \u201cfamily-size\u201d Papa\u2019s salad.\u00a0 For roughly $9 we can eat as much Italian bread as we want and finish it off with this amazing salad.\u00a0 Keep reading for even more examples of these types of deals!<\/p>\n

Finally, skip the drinks! Free water is better for you and will save you a ton of money that is typically spent on overpriced soft drinks.<\/p>\n

Think outside the Box<\/h2>\n

There is more to a date than food!<\/strong>\u00a0 While we\u2019re always interested in finding great food for a really low price, we also want our dates to be romantic and fun.\u00a0 Some of the inexpensive ways we\u2019ve been able to facilitate this are below.<\/p>\n

  1. Rent a movie<\/em>.\u00a0 Most of you are probably saying \u201cNo duh!\u201d\u00a0 Well, Smarty-pants, did you know that you could probably be renting movies for FREE?\u00a0 Let me share the tip with you.\u00a0 For every unique credit\/debit card that you or your significant-other own, you are able to take advantage of two free rental codes<\/strong> at your nearest Redbox.\u00a0 These codes are DVDONME and BREAKROOM.\u00a0 They\u2019ve been in the system for years and continue to work.\u00a0 So if you each have two unique cards, then you\u2019re looking at eight free rentals!\u00a0 Pretty neat right?\u00a0 Well it\u2019s hard to beat free, but we\u2019ve also recently stumbled upon Family Video.\u00a0 If you\u2019re a new customer, they offer 50% off your rentals for the first thirty days and that\u2019s not mentioning their already low rate of $2.59 for five nights (for current releases; older releases are much less, often 2\/$1).<\/li>\n
  2. Enjoy God\u2019s creation<\/em>.\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019re tired of staying indoors.\u00a0 Consider coming out to Faith Community Center!\u00a0 The pond out back is very romantic and full of wildlife.\u00a0 There is a walking path and several seating areas, including a gazebo!\u00a0 The sunsets are to die for and the free disc golf is great too!\u00a0 Or how about visiting Lafayette\u2019s own Columbian Park and Zoo?\u00a0 Did you know both are free to the public?\u00a0 They\u2019ve got swing sets, a playground, and a pond with lots of wildlife, as well as pavilions for a nice picnic or BBQ.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n
  3. Go local.\u00a0 <\/em>One of the neatest things our community is known for is its appreciation of the fine arts.\u00a0 Not only is there a local theater, but there are many public festivals happening each season.\u00a0 Hop onto the Tippecanoe County visitors\/recreation website<\/a><\/em> to see what\u2019s coming to town next.\u00a0 Since most of these things happen downtown, it\u2019s a perfect opportunity to begin the evening with a visit to a local coffee shop like Greyhouse on the West side of the river and then take a short stroll across the John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge to the festivities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \nComments:<\/strong> One order with enough food for two!\u00a0 This is some of the best fish in town too!<\/p>\n

    \n<\/a>Typical Cost:<\/strong> $10-12
    \nOrder:<\/strong> Family-size Papa\u2019s Salad
    \nComments:<\/strong> This single order is enough for two!\u00a0 You\u2019ll love their free Italian bread and oil\/garlic dip.\u00a0 If you get it \u201cto-go\u201d you\u2019ll get even larger portions!<\/p>\n

    \n<\/a>Typical Cost:<\/strong> $12-15
    \nOrder:<\/strong> Any of their pizzas
    \nComments:<\/strong> Another single order large enough for two!\u00a0 The toppings are flavorful and unique, and the atmosphere is great! Walk around downtown or across the pedestrian bridge afterwards!<\/p>\n

    Location:<\/strong> Subway & Culver\u2019s
    \nTypical Cost:<\/strong> $10-12
    \nOrder:<\/strong> 12\u201d sub \/ 2x Mini Concrete Mixers
    \nComments:<\/strong> Most of Subway\u2019s 12\u201d subs are around $6 and the ice cream (with 2 toppings) is around $5. This combination works great for a date night at the park or a nice stroll around the Faith Community Center Pond!<\/p>\n
