A previous post<\/a> generated some questions on singleness and womanhood.<\/p>\n

Can only a married<\/em> woman fulfill her “helper by design” role?<\/h2>\n

Absolutely\u00a0not.<\/p>\n

How did the Proverbs 31 woman become an excellent wife? We know that she couldn’t have been born married, and that her married status must have come after being single<\/em>…so what was she doing in her singleness?<\/p>\n

The Proverbs 31 wife is frequently held up as\u00a0the picture woman, shining brightly from her home, in her married<\/em> state (certainly a\u00a0true depiction of this marital role). But Proverbs 31 is written to young men telling them what to look for in a future <\/em>wife \u2013 and what is a future wife now<\/em>? A single<\/em> woman.\u00a0\u00a0Clearly, the qualities that we admire in the Proverbs 31 woman\u00a0would\u00a0first be\u00a0observed in the life of a single woman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Married\u00a0or<\/em> Single – A Proverbs 31 Woman Displays God-given Qualities<\/h2>\n

Notice the character qualities of the Proverbs 31 wife. She is a trustworthy and influential companion to her husband.\u00a0She employs her skills to create with her hands. She manages her household.\u00a0She runs a home business.\u00a0She has physical strength.\u00a0She is industrious \u2013 works long hours, is wise, teaches kindness and wisdom, takes care of the needy, etc. She focuses her tremendous talent and skill in strengthening her family and home \u2013 thereby impacting the community as well<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

OK, so now, how would this look in the life of a single<\/em> woman? Well, her disposition is still as bent toward employing her skills\u00a0to strengthen\u00a0others. Consider the following characteristics which shine through in a Proverbs 31 woman (single or married): \u00a0hospitable, looks for ways to meet the needs of others, disciples and mentors other women, seeks to\u00a0enhance her job performance. She works hard and\u00a0is submissive to authority in her life. She recognizes her ability to use her skills to the betterment of others (her boss, friends, community, etc.), and not herself. She is not a gossip and\u00a0is\u00a0able to be trusted; she gives godly counsel, speaks with kindness, does not clamor for appreciation and honor from others, is joyful and content where God has placed her \u2013 she is not self-focused or self-righteous.<\/p>\n

In all seasons of life, single or married, women can (and should) be developing the qualities of a Proverbs 31 woman. While all believers are called to help each other and grow in leadership, a <\/strong>woman’s<\/strong> unique design allows her to\u00a0shine brightly\u00a0when focusing her energy on the betterment of others – helping<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0On the other hand, a man’s design is unique to godly charecteristics\u00a0specific to\u00a0manhood. A godly man\u00a0will\u00a0shine though\u00a0in his abilities to lead,\u00a0provide, and protect in various circumstances.<\/p>\n
