This year at Faith West we are studying the books of Joshua and Judges in a series called, Everyone Did Right in Their Own Eyes. \u00a0It is going to be incredible to see the contrast between a leader like Joshua who was faithful to the Lord and the people who were seeking their own desires. \u00a0It is our hope that by giving you the basic outline of the lesson you can follow up with your teens to see what they have learned and to help them apply those truths in their life.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0Joshua 5:13-6<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Victory only comes from the LORD 5:13-6:5<\/p>\n

a. Circumcision of the men in enemy territory<\/p>\n

i. He\u2019s testing their FAITH<\/p>\n

1. They walked around for 40 years as God tested their faith<\/p>\n

2. This is a strategically foolish move<\/p>\n

3. The river is behind them<\/p>\n

4. Their men are handicapped for at least 3 days<\/p>\n

ii. Joshua is confronted by the Angel of the Lord<\/p>\n

1. Walking along thinking about what to do<\/p>\n

2. Looks up and sees man with a drawn sword<\/p>\n

a. First off how terrifying<\/p>\n

b. Joshua shows he is a Man of Faith and completely trusts in God\u2019s provision<\/p>\n

c. He\u2019s at a disadvantage<\/p>\n

d. Asks \u201care you with us or against us\u201d<\/p>\n

e. Trusts God will provide<\/p>\n

f. Man replies<\/p>\n

g. Joshua falls on his face immediately in submission<\/p>\n

b. God\u2019s reassurance of Victory<\/p>\n

i. Absurdity of how to conquer Jericho<\/p>\n

1. These people are to walk around TIGHTLY SHUT city<\/p>\n

2. Jericho knew they were coming<\/p>\n

3. They also knew that their God gave them the land<\/p>\n

4. Jericho\u2019s ready for a fight<\/p>\n

ii. They have the river to their back<\/p>\n

1. They haven\u2019t been in this land<\/p>\n

2. They don\u2019t know where to get food<\/p>\n

3. No home base except for a camp<\/p>\n

iii. God\u2019s instruction<\/p>\n

1. Walk around it for a week<\/p>\n

2. Be quiet and don\u2019t utter a word<\/p>\n

3. On the 7th day I\u2019ll knock the walls off the place<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Discuss: What does God tell you to do that seem absurd at times?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2. Overcoming the enemy by Faith<\/p>\n

a. Joshua immediately follows God\u2019s command<\/p>\n

i. He calls the priests<\/p>\n

ii. They carry the ark<\/p>\n

iii. The people march around Jericho<\/p>\n

1. Jericho<\/p>\n

a. Watching diligently<\/p>\n

b. Well-Fortified (2 walls the outer wall was 6 feet thick, the inner wall 12 feet \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 thick)<\/p>\n

c. They know of the people outside<\/p>\n

2. Israel<\/p>\n

a. All day they marched<\/p>\n

b. The city is shut tight<\/p>\n

c. The only way to get in is from force<\/p>\n

d. And they are walking in circles in silence<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Discuss: What do you think it was like being inside Jericho?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

b. It\u2019s tense<\/p>\n

i. Everyone is ready for action<\/p>\n

ii. It\u2019s been silent<\/p>\n

iii. It\u2019s been the same thing every day for a week<\/p>\n

iv. A fight has been brewing<\/p>\n

c. Joshua doesn\u2019t add to the plan<\/p>\n

i. There is no plan B<\/p>\n

ii. There are no attempts to make God\u2019s plan better<\/p>\n

iii. If God doesn\u2019t do something they are completely lost<\/p>\n

d. Then Joshua tells them to let loose<\/p>\n

i. Shout for the LORD has given you the city<\/p>\n

ii. The walls fell down<\/p>\n

1. Outer wall 6ft thick<\/p>\n

2. Inner wall 12ft thick<\/p>\n

3. It all hit the ground<\/p>\n

iii. Then there is chaos as God destroys the city<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

3. When the victory is won, don\u2019t forget where it came from.<\/p>\n

a. A ban is placed on getting any spoils<\/p>\n

i. Everything is to be burned and destroyed<\/p>\n

ii. Only Rahab and her family are spared<\/p>\n

b. Treasure goes to God\u2019s treasury<\/p>\n

i. Don\u2019t take what is God\u2019s<\/p>\n

ii. Future repercussions<\/p>\n

c. God is in control<\/p>\n

i. The absurdity of circumstances<\/p>\n

ii. Weak people<\/p>\n

iii. Insane fighting tactics<\/p>\n

d. Do you live that way?<\/p>\n

i. When God says to do something absurd<\/p>\n

ii. When it seems stupid<\/p>\n

iii. When you can\u2019t see the outcome<\/p>\n

iv. When you know better<\/p>\n

e. Rahab<\/p>\n

i. Are you like Rahab?<\/p>\n

ii. When the walls of your life fall do you still trust God?<\/p>\n

iii. Do you live life pressured by your peers?<\/p>\n

iv. God lived up to His end of the deal even for a prostitute\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

v. When it came down to it Rahab trusted in God and her faith in God was what \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 protected her.<\/p>\n
