So the “gossip girl” in your class has her\u00a0clique out to get you.\u00a0 Each little comment bites like fangs from a cobra.\u00a0 The threatening looks are like a thousand daggers\u00a0enclosing your being.<\/p>\n

The “ugly upperclassmen” and his buds get a\u00a0frequent laugh out of making you look like a fool…Not to mention the constant smacks on the head, shoves in the back, knocking stuff out of your hands, and posting insulting lies on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Or it’s the “jock-jerk” that pretends you’re invisible.\u00a0 If you offer him your piece of pizza, he is happy to take it expectantly without a “thanks.”\u00a0 Then, when you try to say “hi” or have any level of conversation, you’re completely ignored.\u00a0 Like a mosquito, you may get a simple swat to move or shut up.\u00a0 And when opportunity arises, Mr. Jock-Jerk smears your reputation in the dirt to elevate his status.<\/p>\n

For these and the hundred other bullying situations that are much worse, what should you do?<\/p>\n

Let me give you some simple steps to take when being bullied<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0They may vary depending on the level of intensity and the situation you are in, but for many it will get you started:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Pray.<\/strong> Pray to\u00a0God (Psalm 5:2)\u00a0for strength for yourself.\u00a0 Pray for the one who is mistreating you.\u00a0 Obviously this person is not honoring God in his or her life.\u00a0 This person, by hurting you, is directly disobeying his\/her Creator – that puts this person in deep trouble with God.\u00a0 Pray for God to change this person’s heart.<\/li>\n
  2. Fear not<\/strong>.\u00a0 (Don’t LOL or click me off, hear me out).\u00a0 For the one who knows Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, He is with you.\u00a0 He can and will help you through the situation (1 Corinthians 10:13).\u00a0 Proverbs 29:25 says, “The fear of man brings a snare, but he who trusts in the LORD will be exalted.” The Psalms are also full of times people cried out to God for help and recognized God as their strength and help in time of need.\u00a0 Do not allow yourself to worry and fear and dwell on all the words said and actions done against you, or\u00a0dwell on the \u00a0“What if’s.”<\/li>\n
  3. Get help.\u00a0 Tell someone you trust.<\/strong> You are not in this alone.\u00a0\u00a0You have help.\u00a0 Talk to one or both of your parents, a pastor, a teacher, a coach, a club leader, a school guidance counselor.\u00a0 God has designed authorities to help protect and direct your life (Romans 13:1-4).<\/li>\n
  4. Refuse to bully back<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0Hard, it is (a little\u00a0Star Wars\u00a0Yoda lingo).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This is different than defending yourself if someone\u00a0comes at you with a knife or gun…that’s another level.\u00a0 God is clear in Romans 12:17-21 that He will deal with the one doing wrong; and that He does not want\u00a0the one\u00a0to whom wrong is done (victim)\u00a0to go after and try to harm\u00a0the one who initiated it.<\/li>\n
  5. Do good to the bully.<\/strong> I may lose some here, but this is where\u00a0you (as the one mistreated\/bullied) may actually\u00a0get the\u00a0opportunity to\u00a0genuinely help another human being who\u00a0desperately needs\u00a0help.\u00a0 It’s up to you.\u00a0 But God’s Word says in Romans 12:21 that you can overcome\u00a0evil with good<\/strong>.\u00a0 \u00a0When people do good to those who mistreat them, there is an amazing power that God gives in that.\u00a0 It catches the person way off guard.\u00a0 Jesus Christ,\u00a0God in the\u00a0flesh, \u00a0is the ultimate example of one who endured every kind of ridicule and bullying, yet did not do wrong (sin).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So, whether it’s gossip girl, ugly upperclassman,\u00a0 jock-jerk, or any other person mistreating\/bullying you, the reality is these people are hurting too.\u00a0 The bully doesn’t \u00a0know how to handle life in the right way.\u00a0 You have the opportunity to show him\/her how to handle difficulty, pain, and hurt<\/strong> by following these five steps.<\/p>\n
