Where They Are Now: Janessa!

It’s time to follow up with another former VOH intern, and hear the encouraging story of how God has been working in her life since completing her internship with us.

Today, we are following up with Janessa! Janessa came to us from Wisconsin, and reflected the love, gentleness, and compassion of Christ beautifully to our residents and staff team. Let’s hear how God has been at work in her life!

What was something (or things) you learned during your VOH internship? How is this helping you now?

Unfortunately, I cannot put into one word or one sentence all the things I learned or experienced while interning at VOH, but I will give you a few highlights to give you a better picture! I always did know that I wanted to help women who were hurting, but never saw so fully represented the love, grace, forgiveness, perseverance and sacrifice that the staff poured out to the residents. It made me want to work harder at pleasing Christ in these ways. Little did I know that the internship would even teach me how to be a more Godly friend and how to be more flexible in my daily life. It also sparked my interest in wanting to become ACBC certified. But I think the most important thing the internship taught me was a deeper meaning to understanding that ministry is what the Christian life is about. We are only on this earth for such a short time period. Whether you are in the ministry or in a secular work place, you have a ministry. Sharing and living the Gospel is our ministry!

What are you doing now, and how did the internship help you in your current position?

“I am currently working as an optician. Since the environment I work in is mostly working with people and/or customer service, I have considerate amounts of opportunities to exemplify Christ and problem solve. My internship at VOH has helped me tremendously in both these areas. I miss working alongside other believers in more ways than one, but I am thankful that the Lord allowed me to work at VOH to prepare me for working with others who may not love or know Christ.

Within the past 14 months, I have also married my best friend! Marriage is truly a blessing from God, and I am so thankful for the husband God has given me to spend my life with! 🙂 Being newly married has given me, believe it or not, even MORE opportunities to glorify and honor Christ! I praise God for being able to see Christ’s characteristics of grace, love and forgiveness given so freely at VOH so that I can practice it myself in my marriage and workplace.”

What is one thing you want others to know about the VOH internship?

“I want others to know that being an intern at VOH is awesome! Be prepared to grow and to be stretched yourself and to see the hand of God working in the lives of the residents. It is an experience that I will never forget!”

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
