Resource Friday: Killing Sin Habits

Habits are easy to make and hard to break. Habits can be a good thing – for example, one can develop a habit of a daily prayer and Bible reading – but they can also lead you down a dark path, enslaving you to the point where it seems you can never break free. But there is hope for freedom in God’s Word, and that’s exactly what Stuart Scott seeks to help believers to take hold of in his book, Killing Sin Habits.

Killing Sin Habits is a small book that packs a powerful punch. Scott lays out how the ever turning temptation/lust cycle develops, and what is the element that is so often missing from one’s attempt at stopping a sinful habit. The cycle is likened to a clock. Temptation occurs, followed by a feeble struggle, unholy surrender, sin, momentary pleasure, guilt/shame, confession, then time passes and the perfect setup happens yet again, which begins another cycle.

Stuart states, “The fact is, you cannot kill sin without a full replacement of it with something else; with the right things. The most fundamental thing to activate at the right time, in the right way, is faith...But let me be clear, it is not just about doing something, it is about being something or personally embracing something from the inside out – for the glory it brings to God and the eternal kind of life it brings to us.” In his book, Scott uses scripture to teach his readers what it truly meals to love Christ in a radical way, and how to choose to glorify God and say no to temptation because of your love for Him and in order to glorify Him.

From radical amputation to sifting through common hindrances of continued victory, Scott gets right to the heart of the problem of habitual sin. So whether you struggle with drug addiction, pornography, gluttony, or any other habit that is hindering your relationship with Christ, this little book will get you on the right track toward victory!

Killing Sin Habits is a great resource for those who want solid, biblical answers to these tough issues.  If you know someone who is stuck in a sinful habit and is not willing to get help, perhaps this small book will be the little push that they need to kick-start their road to victory! Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
