A Follower: Shannon’s Story

As we begin to wrap up our intern introduction series, I would like to thank all of our interns who have shared their hearts and stories of God’s grace. If you have enjoyed hearing from our interns and are interested in learning more about our internship program, please contact our intern coordinator, Jenn Heikkinen, for more info at jheikkinen@faithlafayette.org or call our office at (765) 447-5900.

Today’s intern highlight is Shannon! Shannon came to us in July, 2014, from Huntsville, Alabama. She attended Faith Church’s annual BCTC conference this past February, where she met Jenn Heikkinen at our Vision of Hope info display. Jenn hosted an event that week for anyone interested in the internship program. After attending, Shannon decided to apply to be an intern! Shannon stated that she is excited to learn about biblical counseling and to see it put into practice on a regular basis.

We are so excited to have Shannon as part of our team! Each and every one of our interns is such a blessing to us. It is also a blessing when they share how God has worked in their lives to bring them to the place they are today!

Shannon shared with me that she was saved at the age of 16: “The Lord showed me my sin and my need for a Savior. I struggled with doubts of my salvation and perfection for 10 months or so, but now through Christ I have been rid of my doubts and am excited to follow Him for the rest of my life!!”

What an awesome statement of commitment to Christ! When asked about her future plans, Shannon shared, “I’m not sure of any plans so far, but I would like to become a nurse or have some sort of medical degree, maybe even an M.D. I’m hoping God will show me His will during this year at VOH.”

We will be praying for God’s will for your future right along with you, Shannon. How awesome it’s been to hear all of the unique stories our interns have shared of how the Lord has taken hold of their lives. These ladies are each wonderful examples of Christ-likeness, and we are beyond thankful for their sacrificial service to our precious residents!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
