Memorial Stones

On Memorial Day, I thought it appropriate to talk about the memorial stones of Joshua 4:1-3, 6-7:

Now when all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, “Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from each tribe, and command them, saying, ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from here out of the middle of the Jordan, from the place where the priests’ feet are standing firm, and carry them over with you and lay them down in the lodging place where you will lodge tonight…’”

…Let this be a sign among you, so that when your children ask later, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ then you shall say to them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’ So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.”

God commanded His children to commemorate the miracle event He did in their lives with standing stones so that they could tell future generations about His goodness, power, and other attributes of their character so that they could know Him. What are the events that God has worked His power in your life? Do you have written journals or other ways of keeping “standing stones” of what God did? How do you share your faith with others?

Since today is Memorial Day and we are honoring those who have served and died for our country in their military service, post a comment honoring a loved one who has served in our military. Or feel free to comment about what God has done in your life and how He has demonstrated His faithfulness and awesome power! Either way, glorify the Lord!
